I am putting this issue of Ripples together after having just watched the
Super Bowl (actually, I focused more on the commercials....and these recent
submissions seemed relevant!)

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

I'm not pondering anything right now, other than the Rockies that are
staring back at me as I gaze out my 9th story hotel window. They are
telling me to go to sleep right now so I can wake up early and drive to
Winter Park and hit the slopes.
When the mountains speak to you, it is prudent not to ignore them.
Peace to you,
Paul

Ideals are like stars: You will not succeed in touching them with your hands.
But like the seafaring men on the desert of waters, you choose them as your
guides. And following them you will reach your destiny.

BOULDER ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Follow Your Destiny Wherever it Leads You
There comes a time in your life
when you realize that if you stand still,
You remain at this point forever.
You realize that if you fall and stay down, life will pass you by.
Life's circumstances are not always what you might wish them to be.
The pattern of life does no necessarily go as you plan.
Beyond any understanding, you may at times be led in different directions
that you never imagined, dreamed or designed.
Yet if you had never put any effort into choosing a path, or tried to carry
out your dream, then perhaps you would have no direction at allS*
Rather than wondering about or questioning the direction your life has
taken-accept the fact that there is a path before you now.
Shake off the "why's" and "what if's" and rid yourself of confusion
Whatever was-is in the past
Whatever is-is what's important.
The past is a brief reflection.
The future is yet to be realized.
Today is here.
Walk your path one step at a time-with courage, faith and determination.
Keep your head up, and cast your dreams to the stars.
Soon your steps will become firm, and your footing will be solid again.

PONDER ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Last week, 200 of us traveled through bitter cold and snowy conditions to
spend 24 hours together in La Crosse, Wisconsin for a phenomenal leadership
conference. I had a blast delivering several presentations to the group,
but for me the magic appeared in the small group conversations during the
down times. It was in those moments that I felt most connected to the
workshop participants.
I am beginning to understand that our destinies do not lie in the huge
milestones that we strive to achieve, but instead in the daily decisions of
how we treat others and ourselves. It is through these seemingly small and
mundane daily events that true potential can emerge.
If you want to create a new destiny for yourself, I challenge you to make
some small and significant changes in your life TODAY that over time will
compound into a magnificent future.
Peace to you,
Paul

Life's most urgent question is: what are you doing for others?
original source: Martin Luther King, Jr
submitted by: Barbara Heidecke <barbara.heidecke@t...>
To have a dream is to have a sense of purpose.
To see a dream is to know direction
To realize a dream is to live in an uncertain reality, where the dreaming
is just begun.

If you have a dream alive in your mind,
Bring it to the world, give it life.
Too often, the treasure which are ours alone to give
are never given the chance to grow.
We each have a unique gift
to bring to this world.
It is our purpose in life
to offer this gift.
For even if only a few people benefit from our offering,
the world is then a better place to live.

I am wrapping up a three-day swing through Pennsylvania where I have been
visiting a handful of fabulous colleges that are getting ready to begin a
new semester of classes just after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I was
excited to discover how students of many different cultures are committing
themselves to dream BIG dreams, and how many of them attribute such great
motivators as Rev. King for helping fuel their dreams.
Keep dreaming, and don't underestimate the power of telling others about
YOUR dream! You don't have to stand on the steps of the Lincoln Monument
to say these words: "I have a dream....."!
Happy Dreaming!

When faced with a challenge, look for a way, not a way out.

BOULDER ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I don't divide the world into
the weak and the strong,
or the successes and the failures,
those that make it and those who don't.
I divide the world into
the learners and the nonlearners.
There are people who learn,
who are open to what happens around them,
who listen, who hear the lessons.
When they do something stupid,
they don't do it again.
And when they do something that works a little bit,
they do it even better and harder the next time.
The question to ask is not
whether you are a success or a failure,
but whether you are a learner or a nonlearner.

I spent my first few days of this new year in Miami with a group of coaches
committed to helping take young tennis players to the next level. We were
sharing the frustration of working with individuals who are right on the
edge of moving to the next level of greatness, but who simply fail to take
the step.
Such barriers to development are often not due to a lack of knowledge or
skill, but instead arise from the inability to recognize the strengths they
possess.
What step can you take this week that will demonstrate to yourself and to
the world that you are ready to move to the next level? Take a moment
right now to write that step on your "to do" list and make sure it gets
accomplished before Friday!
GO FOR IT!

I have some big news for you! A group of ripple creators are creating a
new foundation, tentatively named "Project Ripple: A Foundation for Hope &
Peace" in order to:
1. RECOGNIZE people who create ripples of hope and peace for others
2. INSPIRE all of us to create more ripples.
Our first few projects are ambitious:
* anonymous marketing effort designed to inspire people to create ripples
* series of mini-grants offered to nonprofit organizations for use to take
care of staff/volunteers
* award system for Ripples subscribers and others to nominate
ripple-creators (ripplers?)
Wanna help? We will be keeping Ripples subscribers well-informed to the
many ways you can contribute your time and energy. In the short term, we
need to establish a pool of funds to begin our work. If you have a few
dollars (or a few dozen dollars) to spare, we'd appreciate your support!
At this time, donations would NOT be tax-deductible. Hopefully within one
year we will have gained tax-exempt status. Send checks to: STONE SOUP
SEMINARS, 1911 Sherman Ave #4, Madison WI 53704. THANKS!
Peace to you,
Paul
