_______
PEBBLE
Boldness rewards those who know how to seize their opportunities. -Marcel
Proust, submitted by Taylor W. Wauwatosa WI

________
BOULDER
We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided
each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all
gates, all opportunities. -Ralph Waldo Emerson, submitted by Kelly L.,
Boston MA

_______
PONDER
After a brief yet fun-filled journey to the Canadian Province of Alberta
for the Western Canadian Campus Recreation Conference, I am writing this
ponder on the flight home to my dog, my sweetie, and my own sweet bed.

I had some time on this trip to dive into Seth Godin's new book "Linchpin:
Are you Indispensable?" As always, his provocative perspective and informal
writing style invite me to challenge how I think, feel, and behave in my
training business and beyond. I recommend it to anyone who might be ready
to seize new opportunities!

I hope you create the time and energy to claim the rewards of your boldness
this week!

Peace,
Paul

_______
PEBBLE
Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it,
you can either run from it, or learn from it.
-Rafiki (in The Lion King) submitted by Heidi R., Dubuque IA

________
BOULDER
People grow through experience
if they meet life honestly
and courageously.
This is how character is built.

Everyone stumbles, everyone experiences difficulty, everyone has poopy
times. Everyone. Even Oprah. Even the Pope. Even me. Even you.

Yesterday's poopy times can help us be stronger, more effective, and more
appreciative of tomorrow's good times. I wish for you a few good times this
week, and just enough poopy times to learn something important!

Peace,
Paul

_______
PEBBLE
We must accept finite dissapointment,
but we must never lose infinite hope.
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., submitted by Samantha Z., Oklahoma

________
BOULDER
I believe that unarmed truth
and unconditional love
will have the final word in reality.
That is why right, temporarily defeated,
is stronger than evil triumphant.
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

_______
PONDER
Each year in the U.S.A. we set aside the third Monday in January to honor
the magnificent Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who believed passionately in the
powerful and unending ripples of peace and justice. He was a primary
influence in the creation of this newsletter.

I ask Ripplers everywhere to honor Dr. King by donating $10 to a charity
already on the ground in Haiti [http://CharityWatch.org has compiled an
excellent list] and another $10 to a local charity that might be receiving
fewer donations because of the economy and/or the recent focus on Haiti. If
you are comfortable, share which organizations you donated to on our
facebook wall:

http://Facebook.com/TheRipplesGuy

I know that for some Ripples $20 is a substantial sum of money; I suspect
you know that $10 can make a real difference in a country as poor as Haiti,
and $10 to a local charity will help them know they are not forgotten in
these difficult times. It takes only a moment, so please do what you can!

Peace,
Paul
p.s. If you would like a remarkable list of Dr. King quotes from the past
12 years of Ripples, please send a blank email to the following address:
MLK [at] TheRipplesGuy.com and please note you will need to replace [at]
with @.

Ripples #555: Owning Our Choices!

who believe tiny actions create big possibilities

_______
PEBBLE
We have time for whatever we choose to do, so let's own our choices!
-written and submitted by Dr. Mia Cary, Greensboro NC (& my sister!)

________
BOULDER
Every time you make a choice
you are turning the central part of you,
the part that chooses,
into something a little different
than what it was before.
And taking your life as a whole, with all your innumerable choices, you are
slowly turning this central thing either into a heavenly creature or into a
hellish creature.
-C.S. Lewis, submitted by Lisa D. L'Anse MI

We are all busy, busy, BUSY! You probably have more on today's to-do list
than you can fit in a week. I know, I get it.

We may not have time to get to everything we WANT to get done. We do,
however, have EXACTLY enough time to get to the most important stuff. We
have to choose what is important and then, as my sister states above in the
pebble: OWN OUR CHOICES! So make choices this week to accomplish much,
appreciate others, and add joy for yourself and those around you.

Peace,
Paul

_______
PEBBLE
Your life is the manifestation of your dream; it is an art.
And you can change your life anytime
if you aren't enjoying the dream.
-Don Miguel Ruiz, submitted by Sharri d.S., Eugene, OR

________
BOULDER
To dream anything that you want to dream.
That's the beauty of the human mind.
To do anything that you want to do.
That is the strength of the human will.
To trust yourself to test your limits.
That is the courage to succeed.
-Bernard Edmonds, submitted by Danielle A., Oshkosh WI

PONDER
Welcome to a new year, a new decade and an opportunity to create NEW
DREAMS! Whether you are enhancing a long-time dream or starting from
scratch, I encourage you to consider where you would like to end up this
year in terms of finances, fitness, work, school, etc., and then figure out
what you can start doing NOW to ensure you reach your destination.

If you are not into establishing resolutions, that is okay! It is still
worth dreaming a bit so you can consider this year's direction and
destination. And whatever you choose to create for yourself and others, I
hope it includes...

Peace!
Paul
p.s. You may have noticed a different format in the SUBJECT LINE.
Beginning with this issue, I have chosen to shift away from using a "volume
#, issue #" format for identifying each issue and instead will use a single
number that communicates how many issues we have Rippled since January 15,
1999.
